Pura Taman Ayun / Taman Ayun Temple is a temple located at Menguwi Village which associated with Menguwi Kingdom, in 1627 Balinece Caka calendar Built at the time of Ida Cokorda Sakti Belambangan, the temple was dedicated to worship the Royal ancestors who find their rest in a special shrine known as Gedong Paibon.
Following the pattern of most Balinese temples, Taman Ayun temple has three connecting temple yards. Entering this temple, one must pass through Kori Agung (Paduraksa), a raised gate way to reach the main sanctum. In between the outer and middle, a split gate, known as “Candi Bentar” is connecting Nista Mandala (the humblest circle) the outer yard to the middle yard, Madia Mandala as the circle in between. The innermost sanctum, Utama Mandala is the highest circle to reach wiched following of three hita karana Balinese philosphy.
Pura Taman Ayun was abandoned during the rule of the victorious Raja of Badung. It was restored in the year 1911 AD when part of the Royal Family returned to their family seat at Mengwi. Once the temple was damaged in many of the existing buildings due to a violent earth-quake on January 20, 1917 but soon the preservation has been performed to made the temple to its authentic condition.
