Weaving Draws Attention of Visitors in Taman Nusa – Weaving activities in Taman Nusa attract foreign travelers. This tourist attraction is located on Jalan Taman Bali, Blahpane Klod hamlet, Sidan village, Gianyar. Tourist attraction featuring a wide range of cultures such as customary houses, works of art and typical cuisines of Indonesia seems increasingly livelier and more unique. Moreover, there are typical Indonesian community activities such as the making of local handicrafts by weaving.
In one of the customary houses namely the Lio Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, there are activities undertaken by native weavers. “When there are visitors making a visit to the Lio house, they usually ask about weaving and immortalize some photos of the weaving products. In addition, they are also curious to weave and get the feel of the process,” said a cloth weaver in Taman Nusa, Novi Tsiompah. Novi explained the woven motif varied such as floral, animal, combination of lines and much more. “The main material in use is cotton yarn.
Besides, I also use natural coloring substance made from the roots and leaves of Morinda citrifolia and tauma leaf so that it can produce good quality. This material can also be replaced with common materials such as wool,” she explained. Meanwhile, Public Relations of the Taman Nusa, I Gede Panca Buana Karya, added the presence of weavers often won praise from foreign travelers. “Many of them get amazed due to the beauty and delicate weaving products. Moreover, it is the first time for them to know the native weaving activity of Kupang and see the process in person,” he said.
The weaving product of Kupang style, continued Panca Buana, was relatively expensive because the making process was long and carried out manually by skilled weaver. By all means, it could be taken advantage as a gift or souvenir for travelers. “The weaving products made by weavers here will be on display at Taman Nusa. Later on, the weaving yields will be enjoyed back by the weavers themselves,” he added with a smile
